Foam Dressing

Foam dressing is a new type of dressing made of medical polyurethane foam containing CMC, which has high absorbency, breathability and cushioning protection. Its multi-layer structure includes a waterproof outer layer, a liquid-absorbing foam layer and a low-sensitivity adhesive layer, which can effectively manage medium to large amounts of exudate, maintain a moist environment for the wound and promote healing. It is suitable for acute and chronic wounds such as pressure sores, diabetic ulcers, and postoperative wounds, especially for active parts and areas prone to friction. Advantages include reducing the frequency of dressing changes, reducing the risk of skin maceration, and reducing pain and mechanical damage. It needs to be selected according to the amount of exudate and the stage of the wound, and avoid using it on dry or uninfected wounds. Foam dressings have become one of the commonly used moist healing dressings in clinical practice because of their ease of use and high patient comfort.

Features of Foam Dressing

  • High absorbency: can absorb a large amount of wound exudate (suitable for wounds with moderate to large amounts of exudate).

  • Moisturizing: keeps the wound moderately moist, promotes autolytic debridement and granulation tissue growth.

  • Buffering protection: the soft foam layer reduces external friction and pressure, suitable for pressure sores, diabetic foot ulcers, etc.

  • Breathability: reduces the risk of wound maceration and reduces the probability of infection.

  • Comfort: light and fit, suitable for active parts such as joints and heels.

Steps for Using a Foam Dressing

Instructions

  • Clean the wound: rinse the wound with saline to remove necrotic tissue or foreign matter

  • Choose a suitable dressing: select a suitable foam dressing to cover the wound according to the wound size, exudate volume and location

  • Cover and fix: use a bandage or PU dressing to fix. For deep wounds or wounds with a lot of exudate, use an elastic bandage to apply light pressure.

Warnings

  • Before applying the dressing, make sure the wound area is clean and dry.

  • The foam dressing should be 2 cm larger than the wound.

  • The foam dressing should be changed when exudate approaches 2 cm from the edge of the foam dressing.

  • It can be used with other dressings
