Step 1: Clean the skin
The first step is to clean the area where the polymer bandage will be applied. Clean the skin with soap and water and pat dry.
Step 2: Apply the tubular bandage
Put the tubular bandage over the amputated limb. The tubular bandage helps to wick away perspiration and also provides a smooth surface for the plaster tape to be applied.
Step 3: Apply the padding
Wrap the plaster padding over the bandage and around the arm. The purpose of the plaster padding is to provide a cushion between the limb and the fiberglass plaster tape, making it more comfortable for the patient to wear.
Step 4: Apply the casting tape
Immerse the tape in room temperature (21℃-24℃) water for 4-6 seconds, squeeze 2-3 times, then remove from the water and squeeze out any excess water. Wrap the tape in a spiral around the affected area, overlapping the previous layer of tape by one-half or two-thirds of the width of the tape. The tension is moderate. If the bandage is wrapped too loosely, its adhesion will be reduced; if it is wrapped too tightly, it will affect blood circulation.
Note: Before the bandage is completely hardened, the patient should not move within 10 minutes.
It is suitable for fractures of limbs (such as arms, wrists, legs, ankles, etc.), providing stable support and promoting bone healing.
It is used to temporarily fix the injured limbs in emergency scenarios to facilitate transportation without affecting X-ray examinations.
