Steps for Using a Butterfly Needle

1. Wash hands and disinfect with alcohol gel.

2. Choose a suitable arm, avoid the infusion side and the lesion site, and place a pillow to raise the arm.

3. Tie a tourniquet to locate the vein, palpate to evaluate the elasticity of the vein, and avoid nodules and bifurcations.

4. Disinfect the alcohol cotton swab in a circular pattern with the puncture point as the center, with a diameter of 5cm, and wait for 30 seconds to dry.

5. Tie the tourniquet again, hold the butterfly needle at a 30-degree angle, and insert it 1-2mm after seeing the blood return.

6. Fix the needle with the butterfly wing, connect the blood collection tube in the order of blood collection, and ensure smooth blood flow.

7. After blood collection is completed, loosen the tourniquet first, press the puncture point with a cotton ball, and quickly remove the needle.

8. Instruct the patient to continue pressing for 3-5 minutes, and cover the dressing after observing no bleeding.

9. Gently invert the blood collection tube to mix it evenly, and avoid violent shaking to damage the blood sample.

10. Dispose of items in a standardized manner, discard needles into the sharps box, and record blood collection information.
